Man comes up with creative way to hand out Halloween candy while physically distancing

Like many things this year, Halloween will be quite different due to COVID-19.

Arguably the most important part of the October holiday, trick-or-treating, will still happen, but people are looking for ways to make it as safe as possible.

American Andrew Beattie has come up with a very creative way to hand out candy in a safe and physically distant manner and it’s taken the internet by storm.

Beattie will be utilizing a candy chute, which is simply a six foot long and four inch wide cardboard shipping tube.

He’ll place the tube on the railing of his front stairs and simply slide the candy down to eagerly awaiting trick-or-treaters.

“The intent is I will be having gloves or tongs and pulling out fresh candy from the bag and dropping it down the tube," Beattie told Fox19 news in Ohio.

"The little ones will hold their buckets or bags right here and it’ll fall in the bucket or bag.”

It was already an orange tube, so he simply added black tape to make it look like a Halloween decoration in itself.

His Facebook post about his crafty little invention has gone viral, having been shared 85,000 times since he posted it in September.

Beattie wrote: “If this candy chute makes things easier or safer, AND gives those with mobility challenges more of a chance to participate, then what's the harm?”

If you happen to have a cardboard shipping tube lying around, perfect, but there are plenty of other similar materials that could be used to create your own candy chute.

Happy Halloween!
