BC records 47 new COVID-19 cases with over 1,500 people currently self isolating

Provincial health officials announced 47 new COVID-19 cases have been recorded in BC over the past 24-hours.

No new deaths were reported for the sixth straight day, with BC's death toll remaining at 195.

There are 371 active cases in the province, a 53% increase over the number of active cases last Thursday.

Health officials also reported that more than 1,500 people are currently self-isolating and being monitored for COVID-19 symptoms in BC.

The province now has 11 people in hospital due to the novel coronavirus, a number that has more than doubled since last Thursday.

Five of those patients are in intensive care, a decrease of one since Wednesday.

New COVID-19 cases have also been reported aboard a US Marine vessel in BC waters.

"There have been a number of the 10 crewmembers who have tested positive," said Henry, adding that the Fraser Health authority and Transport Canada and following up with those who have tested positive and their contacts.

Earlier in the day, TransLink and BC Transit declared that passengers will be required to wear masks while using public transit.
