BC reports 25 new COVID-19 cases and 1 additional death

BC health officials reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 in a written statement on Friday.

Officials also announced one new in the Vancouver Coastal Health region death related to the virus.

“There are 187 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 2,679 people who tested positive have recovered," stated Friday's press release.

“Of the total COVID-19 cases, 16 individuals are hospitalized, five of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation."

There remain only two active health-care facility outbreaks, as long term care homes continue to begin allowing visitors for the first time since March.

As it stands, there are no community outbreaks in the province.

“When spending more time with friends and family, whether that is close to home or on vacation elsewhere in the province, we remind all British Columbians to avoid closed spaces, crowds and close contact with others," added the written statement.

“We know that the more layers of protection we use, the safer we will be. Let’s all ‘layer up’ by washing our hands regularly, using barriers, staying a safe distance from others and using a mask when that is challenging."
