A daring jump from a BC bridge turned deadly early Wednesday morning.
According to Sicamous RCMP, a 23-year-old woman from New Zealand died after jumping from a bridge crossing the Sicamous Channel at 2:00 a.m.
The woman was one of four people to jump from the bridge standing approximately 20 metres above the water. When she did not resurface other people present assisted bringing her to shore.
After being transported by BC Ambulance to a nearby hospital, the woman was transferred to a larger hospital in the region before being pronounced dead.
“Tragically this is the second water related death in Sicamous this summer, states Sicamous Detachment Commander Sergeant Murray McNeil.
“While we want to encourage people to get out and enjoy all that the area has to offer, we cannot stress enough the importance of paying attention to advisories and signage which are put in place to ensure your safety.”
Sicamous RCMP and BC Coroners Service will continue to conduct an investigation, however, the initial investigation has not led police to believe any criminality was involved in the woman’s death.
