BC man plans to pursue dream of becoming a pilot after big lottery win

Robert Froh says he’s always had an affinity for the air.

The Surrey native grew up an aviation enthusiast and has always had dreams of becoming a pilot.

Now, that dream could become a reality thanks to a big win in the Feb. 21 Lotto Max draw.

No, Froh didn’t win the $70-million grand prize, but he did split one of the Maxmillions prizes with a man from Quebec, which netted him a cool $500,000.

After buying the ticket at a Shell station in Surrey, Froh’s wife was the one who checked the winning ticket when the two were out grocery shopping.

“She came back to the car and I showed her the first one, which won a free play,” explained Froh, who bought two tickets for the draw.

“I then told her, ‘you might like this second ticket more’, and it was the one that won $500,000.”

Along with pursuing his dream of becoming a pilot, which Froh says he’s been putting off for 20 or 30 years, he’ll also be making the couple’s anniversary trip to Hawaii a bit more special.

The two will now be able to celebrate their 30 years of marriage with more family by their side and they certainly won’t be cutting costs when it comes to luxury.
