A combination of rolling lightning storms following days of scorching temperatures is keeping wildfire crews busy across B.C.

The interactive BC Wildfire Services map was inundated with red dots indicating new fires on Wednesday evening.

"There are at least 10 new reported wildfires in the Kamloops Fire Centre region as of Wednesday evening," said Marla Katcherall, fire information officer with the BC Wildfire service.

"The largest in the Kamloops Fire Centre is a 20 hectare blaze burning near Logan Lake, however, at this point, it is an evolving situation."

According to BC Wildfire Service, the largest fire started on Wednesday is a 90 hectare blaze aggressively burning 15km west of Burns Lake near Prince George in Northern B.C.

"On Monday and Tuesday we had high pressure over B.C.'s southern interior, that ridge of high pressure is now breaking down and allowing cool air to move into the upper levels. As a result, we are seeing unstable conditions in the atmosphere including thundershowers and lightning strikes," explained meteorologist Wesla English.

"We will continue to see an unstable weather pattern with the possibility of showers continue into Thursday or Friday."
