As UBC Okanagan’s visual arts and media studies students prepare to graduate, they will be putting their work on display for the public to enjoy.
The school’s annual year-end art exhibition will be held over the next several days and it’s tabbed as the largest art show in UBCO’s history.
This year’s show is called Context Not Included and it will feature more than 40 students from the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Media Studies programs.
“Watching these two student bodies seamlessly meld and work tirelessly together to showcase everyone’s work has been really inspiring. We are excited to see how the show will come together,” says Andreas Rutkauskas, a UBCO visual arts instructor.
“This exhibition will highlight our students’ very best, and participants will be amazed at the diversity on display. We’re so thrilled that the community will be able to experience this show.”
There will be an opening reception for the show from 6-9 pm tonight, followed by the week-long exhibition.
It will be open to the public in the Creative and Critical Studies Building, April 20-26 from 10 am until 8 pm each day.
The exhibition will showcase works from many disciplines, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, design, printmaking, animation and plenty more.
Media studies student Liam Davidson calls the range of talents on display “kind of wild.”
“You can watch a short film, then play a game, then turn around and find yourself in a virtual environment, then turn again and be surrounded by stunning paintings and sculptures,” he notes. “There’s just so much to experience.”
Both the opening reception and week-long exhibition are free of charge and open to any member of the public.
