UPDATE: Man, 65, drowns in Okanagan Lake after going for swim

(UPDATE: July 10 @ 8:25 am): A man drowned in Okanagan Lake yesterday afternoon, police have confirmed.

Despite the "heroic" efforts of people nearby, the 65-year-old man died at the scene near the 2000 block of Boucherie Road.

Mounties were called at about 1:45 pm when the man had failed to resurface after swimming in the lake.

He was pulled from the water "within minutes," police said, and CPR was begun immediately.

Medics, when they arrived, continued the life-saving efforts but the man – whose identity has not yet been revealed – could not be saved.

“Despite the best efforts of everyone involved and the heroic efforts of witnesses, the man passed away,” said Cst. Solana Paré.

“RCMP Victim Services are providing support to the witnesses, friends and family of the victim.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of the victim during this difficult time.”

The BC Coroners Service is also investigating the death.

(Original story: July 9 @ 4:10 pm): Central Okanagan scanner is reporting that emergency crews responded to a possible drowning in Okanagan Lake on Thursday afternoon.

According to a tweet, crews were called to Okanagan Lake near the end of Boucherie Road for a water rescue.

Further information reported that a patient was brought to shore where CPR was administered.
