Catastrophic flooding has prompted numerous evacuation orders, as water levels are expected to exceed past years.

According to the government of New Brunswick, communities in southern regions of the province should expect water levels to reach historic highs in the coming days.

“Anyone who has not taken the necessary precautions should act now to prepare for flooding and heed voluntary evacuation warnings from local officials, including those in at-risk areas who have never experienced flooding in the past,” the province’s emergency measures organization said in a release.

The Weather Network is expecting that rain will not let up, as a widespread 15-30 mm of rain is possible through early Saturday. A risk of thunderstorms could bring even heavier rainfall.

The Trans Canada Highway has also been closed between Moncton and Fredericton in both directions because of flooding and additional road closures are expected as water rises in the province.
