Environment Canada’s special air quality statement obviously continues in the Okanagan

The Okanagan continues to be covered by a thick blanket of smoke.

Hazy conditions have stuck around for a few days and that isn’t expected to change in the near future, according to NowMedia meteorologist, Wesla English.

Currently, the Okanagan’s air quality health risk is maxed out at 10+ and the current particulate matter in the air is quite high as well.

As a result, Environment Canada has continued a special air quality statement for the entire Okanagan Valley.

“Wildfire smoke is a natural part of our environment but it is important to be mindful that exposure to smoke may affect your health,” reads the Environment Canada statement.

“People with pre-existing health conditions, the elderly, infants, children and sensitive individuals are more likely to experience health effects from smoke exposure.”

Environment Canada suggests staying inside if possible, especially if you’re having difficulties breathing.
