$content = "
The Civil Resolution Tribunal (CRT) shut out a former hockey player who sued the editor of his memoir for almost $3,000.

George Pesut authored 2024’s The Fourth Period - Between the Ice Sheets: Hockey on Two Continents.

He was unhappy with editing by Sally Jennings (doing business as PTO Editing) and sought a $2,890 refund. Jennings disputed the claim, saying that the editing work was high quality.

Pesut hired Jennings in March 2022 and paid a 50 per cent deposit of $1,445 on March 28 of that year, towards the quoted $2,890. Jennings completed the initial edit in less than a month and provided a final edit of the manuscript in June 2022. Pesut paid the remaining $1,445 on July 27, 2022.

He complained to the tribunal after he allegedly discovered grammar, spelling and punctuation errors in the book.

CRT member Maria Montgomery, in a Jan. 14 decision, said she did not read the book, but instead reviewed the first 50 pages of each version provided by Pesut and Jennings.

Montgomery found only 11 such errors in the first 50 pages.

“For the most part, Mr. Pesut appears to take issue with Sally Jennings’ failure to further polish his writing or adjust his slightly informal writing style,” Montgomery wrote.

Montgomery wrote that even if Jennings’ work had been deficient, the claim would have been disallowed because Pesut did not provide Jennings the opportunity to correct the deficiencies.

“Normally, a contractor has a contractual right to have a reasonable opportunity to correct any deficiencies,” Montgomery wrote.

Saskatoon-born defenceman Pesut, who played for the WHL Victoria Cougars before the team moved to Prince George, was picked 24th overall in 1973’s NHL draft (by the St. Louis Blues) and 24th overall in the WHA draft (by the Cleveland Crusaders).

He played for the NHL’s California Golden Seals in 1974-74 and WHA’s Calgary Cowboys in 1975-76 before returning to the minors. More than half his career was spent with teams in Switzerland, France and Germany.

One of those German teams, ECD Iserlohn, was kept alive in 1987 by a jersey sponsorship deal with Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Pesut told The Victoria Times-Colonist in 2024 that his inspiration for the book was major league pitcher Jim Bouton’s classic diary, Ball Four.
