One of Canada’s biggest country music stars is venturing into politics.
George Canyon has announced that he will run as a Conservative candidate in the riding of Central Nova in the upcoming federal election.
He was added to the roster after Roger MacKay dropped out this week for “personal reasons.”
This isn’t the first time Canyon has thought about entering the political arena. In 2014, he announced his decision to run for a Conservative nomination in Alberta’s Bow River riding, but reversed his decision due to health problems.
According to a post on George Canyon’s official Facebook page, he’s running in the riding of his hometown.
Canyon has won several Juno and Candian Country Music Association awards.
Canyon says he is excited to show voters what kind of representative he’ll be for them.
“Over the next nine weeks, I’m going to wear the soles out of my boots as I work hard to show people here the type of representative and advocate I will be for them,” he said.
The federal election is set to take place on Oct. 21, 2019.
