2024 will see a total solar eclipse, and you might want to prepare in advance to see the amazing celestial event.
On April 8, 2024, the Moon will align perfectly between Earth and the Sun and temporary darkness will sweep across parts of the country.
The event is sure to bring out plenty of spectators, as the next one won’t happen until 2044.
According to the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), the solar eclipse's path of totality will pass through some cities and towns in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland, plunging them into darkness for a few minutes.
The CSA says people outside the path of totality will be able to observe a partial solar eclipse. When watching a partial solar eclipse, proper eye protection is required at all times.
Over in BC, we will need special glasses or a viewing device to take in the entire eclipse. Those in the path of totality will be able to view the eclipse for a moment without eye protection.
This will be a big event in Montreal, which hasn’t witnessed a total solar eclipse since 1972. After this event, it will be over 80 years before the next one.
Partial solar eclipses, as well as total and partial lunar eclipses, take place regularly in Canada.
