Interior Health said in a bulletin issued last night that the emergency department will shut down between 7 am today and 8 am on Wednesday.
Anyone in need of urgent care should instead head to Kamloops, the health authority said.
It explained: “People in the community who need life-threatening emergency care (i.e., chest pains, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding) should always call 911 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility.”
Speaking on Monday, Health Minister Josie Osborne said there’s “no doubt” BC’s health system is “under a lot of strain right now.”
The NDP government, she said, will be reviewing how cash is spent by health authorities to ensure resources are used for “critical patient services” rather than administration.
"We want to obviously take a very close look at administrative costs and make sure that the maximum use of dollars is going to the front line and delivering the services that British Columbians are counting on," she told reporters.
