Don't overspend, regret purchase or impulse buy this Black Friday

'Tis the season for overspending, regret purchases, impulse buying and Black Friday fear-mongering.

'Tis also the season to then try to return what you don't want or don't need.

Tomorrow is Black Friday, the sale-laden kick-off to the holiday shopping season.

It's an awesome day to do your Christmas present shopping for your loved ones and-or snag discount stuff for yourself.

Yet, while some prices are undeniably low, it only makes sense to break open your wallet if you really need or really want that Christmas sweater, pair of red shoes, 70-inch TV, laptop, bread maker or miracle face cream.

It's strange that gambling comparison site InstantCasinos has put out a news release on all this, but it has, likely simply to draw attention to itself as well as provide some useful information.

So, here goes.

InstantCasinos recommends taking a moment to reflect before pulling the purchasing trigger.

While Black Friday is a singular day, the reality is many stores and companies start their sales earlier and extend them later to maximize profits.

So, you have time to figure out if you really need that monster TV or 15th pair of shoes.

The rule of thumb is to wait a couple of days after seeing something you think you need or want before making the final decision to buy or not.

This tactic also works so you can check (or hint) with who you are buying presents for to see if they really want or need the item as well.

Try not to let the fear-mongering of some stores or companies (prices go up tomorrow or only 10 of this item left) influence your shopping decisions.

Set a budget and stick to it.

This helps eliminate impulse and unnecessary purchases.

Take a break from social media where the pressure to buy may abound.

Try to shop in-store rather than online.

It's so easy to shop -- and overspend and over purchase -- online.

So, make the effort to get dressed, go out, drive to the store, fight the crowds and purchase what you need.

If you can't be bothered to make that effort then maybe you don't need those bath bombs, after all.

Poorly planned buying also leads to an onslaught of returns after Black Friday and Christmas, which is hard on consumers, businesses and the environment as items have to be shipped back or end up in the landfill.

Data from Statista, a business intelligence platform, to compile a list of the most-returned items, which are: clothing, shoes, accessories, food and beverage, consumer electronics, books, movies, music and games, cosmetics and body care.
