Billionaire businessman, philanthropist and conservative activist David Koch has died at the age of 79. His brother released a statement today to confirm the news. Koch used more than $1 billion of his estimated $50-billion fortune to contribute to philanthropic causes including a $15-million donation to the Smithsonian and spending $100 million to create a cancer research centre.

With the Amazon rainforest on fire, French president Emmanuel Macron took to Twitter to call it an international crisis and urge G7 leaders to help. Jair Bolsonaro, president of Brazil, claimed that Macron was using the fires for “personal political gain” and had a sensationalist tone about the issue.

A massive thunderstorm in Poland’s Tatra Mountains left five people dead, including two children, and more than 100 injured. According to witnesses, the thunderstorm came out of nowhere on a day that began with clear weather. The storm rattles on camera that captured the lightning strike and it’s almost hard to believe how loud the thunder is.
