Future pandemics could be deadlier than COVID-19, one of the people who created the AstraZeneca vaccine has said. Prof Dame Sarah Gilbert also warned of the need to better prepare for new disease outbreaks.

2. Pakistan PM condemns blasphemy lynching

Pakistan's prime minister has condemned the lynching of a man accused of blasphemy in Pakistan. Priyantha Diyawadanage, 48, was murdered by a mob after allegedly taking down posters containing the name of Muhammad, who Muslims consider to be a prophet.

3. Michael Sheen becomes 'not-for-profit' actor

British actor Michael Sheen has said he has become a "not-for-profit" performer. The actor said he recently sold his houses to raise money for a campaign against homelessness.

4. Trump social media company raises $1B

Former President Donald Trump's new social media company has arranged US$1 billion in funding, it has announced. The firm – Trump Media & Technology Group – is planning to launch Truth Social next year.

5. Italy introduces new restrictions on unvaccinated people

Italy has joined other European countries in introducing tighter COVID-19 restrictions on unvaccinated people. It comes amid fears the new Omicron variant will lead to a spike in infections.
