1. NHL broadcaster has close call with a hockey puck

Pierre McGuire is used to being close to the action during NHL games. The NBC broadcaster has spent years as a colour commentator conveniently located in-between the benches. But on Monday night, McGuire was awfully close to getting a bit more than he bargained for when a puck flew within an inch of his face.

2. Climate change has been blamed for the extinction of a mammal

The Australian government has confirmed that the species Bramble Cay melomys, a tiny mammal found only on an island near Papua New Guinea, is now formally extinct. The species was thought to have died out in 2016, with environmental experts linking its demise to anthropogenic climate change including changes in sea level.

3. Tributes pour in for Karl Lagerfeld

The legendary creative director of Chanel has died aged 85. After French media first reported his death, tributes have come in from around the world.

4. Bernie Sanders announces his 2020 presidential run
