Five things you need to know
He's doing it again. President Donald Trump posted another fake image overnight showing Canada – and Greenland and Venezuela – as part of the United States. It comes as Trump faces increasing opposition to his plans to annex Greenland. The president also posted text messages from the head of NATO and France's president, and attacked the UK for its "GREAT STUPIDITY" in handing over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius.
Meanwhile, Trump's erstwhile bête noire (or should that be visage noir?) Justin Trudeau has popped up in Davos to make a speech to a small group at the World Economic Forum. Accompanied by his pop singer girlfriend Katy Perry, Trudeau reportedly said the planet had entered a "new world era," with the era of "stability and prosperity" following the Second World War "over" and "done." He also praised Canadians for boycotting American alcohol, explaining: "That’s an example of Canadians standing up for themselves. That’s an example of soft power.”

A large chunk of Canadians aged 50 and older fear they don't have enough cash to retire, according to a new survey. The National Institute on Aging study found 42 per cent of the more than 6,000 respondents don't think they'll be able to retire when they want to due to lack of money, while others expressed worries about health care.

Since Christmas Day, dozens of Haitians have been arrested in Quebec after illegally entering Canada from the US – and some fear the situation could soon get a lot worse. The head of a migrant activist group in Quebec said people call him "every day" and say they "have no choice" but to violate Canadian law and enter the country without permission. It comes amid a crackdown on illegal migration in the US.

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has said the port of Churchill is Canada's "only hope if this Greenland stuff continues," in reference to the US's repeatedly expressed desire to annex the Arctic island. “Canada has a lot of great plans for the future, but there’s only one port and one rail line that feeds the Arctic and that would be absolutely essential for us to maintain sovereignty in Canada’s Arctic," he said.

When it comes to Canada’s sovereignty in the Arctic
think Churchill.
When it comes to growing our economy & moving goods from coast to coast to coast
think Churchill.
Whatever you think about Trump,
whatever you think about Greenland,
think Churchill.
