1. Missing 9-year-old Canadian girl found dead in New York, father charged with murder

The body of a missing nine-year-old Canadian girl has been found in northeastern New York state. Melina Frattolin was reported missing late Saturday night in Lake George, possibly due to an abduction, and found dead in Ticonderoga, around 50 kilometres away, on Sunday. This morning, police announced that her father, 45-year-old Luciano Frattolin, has been charged with second-degree murder.


2. Astronomer CEO resigns after viral moment at Coldplay concert

The CEO of Astronomer resigned over the weekend, days after he was caught embracing the company’s HR manager at a Coldplay concert. The tech company announced Saturday afternoon that Andy Byron had resigned after the incident on Wednesday. It spawned a viral movement, with countless internet memes and stadiums across North America now joking around with Coldplay kiss cams.


3. Scottie Scheffler wins the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush

Scottie Scheffler is the Champion Golfer of the Year. The world number one ran away with the 153rd Open Championship over the weekend, finishing with a four-shot victory to win his second major of the year. Scheffler is now just a US Open victory short of becoming the seventh golfer to complete the career grand slam.


4. Trump threatens to hold up Washington stadium deal if team doesn’t change name back

US President Donald Trump wants the Washington Commanders to change their nickname back to the Redskins. In a Truth Social post, Trump threatened to hold up Washington’s stadium deal if they don’t revert back to their original name, which was abandoned in 2020 because it was considered offensive to Native Americans.


5. Canadian woman dies at Tomorrowland music festival in Belgium

A Tomorrowland spokesperson has confirmed that a Canadian woman died after falling ill at the large music festival in Belgium late last week. The 35-year-old was said to have fallen ill at the event on Friday, then given first aid before being taken to Antwerp University Hospital. Festival organizers were told on Saturday morning that the woman had died.
