1. CBSA says it's handed deportation orders to 3 Iranian officials

The Canada Border Services Agency has said it handed deportation orders to three people associated with the Iranian theocratic regime in recent years, though only one of them has actually been removed from the country. The revelation comes after reports of Iranian officials living in Canada during the recent Israel-Iran conflict.


2. No evidence of foreign interference in federal election, commissioner says

There's no evidence the federal election in April was affected by foreign interference, according to the elections commissioner. Caroline Simard said her office received more than 16,000 complaints about the election, seven times the number logged during the 2021 ballot, but "so far" there is no sign the outcome "was affected in any way."


3. Canadian to direct next James Bond movie

The next James Bond movie will be directed by a Canadian, Denis Villeneuve. Amazon MGM Studios said today they'd picked the Dune and Blade Runner 2049 director, with Villeneuve promising to "honour the tradition" of Bond. There's no news on who will be next to play the fictional spy, however.


4. Study launched after hundreds of patients taking weight-loss shots report side effects

A study has been commissioned in the UK after hundreds of people reported severe side effects after taking weight-loss shots. According to the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency, some patients taking the likes of Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy have ended up in hospital with acute pancreatitis.


5. Scientists to build artificial human DNA from scratch

Scientists have begun a controversial project to create artificial human DNA from scratch. The idea has long faced opposition on ethical grounds, but health charity giant the Wellcome Trust said it has the potential to do more good than harm.
