Protests have started to erupt in several US cities as people demand justice for George Floyd, who was killed while in police custody in Minneapolis. Riots have started Minneapolis, Los Angeles and Memphis as hundreds of people gathered in a call for justice over the death of George Floyd, who suffocated when he was handcuffed and pinned to the ground by a Minneapolis police officer on May 26. Support from the National Guard was requested in Minneapolis to combat looting and rioting amid the protests.

The US has declared that Hong Kong is no longer autonomous from China, “given facts on the ground,” meaning it no longer has the freedom to govern itself. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made the announcement on Wednesday. The news has potentially huge ramifications for both mainland China and Hong Kong, and comes a day before Beijing is expected to pass the controversial national security law that would curtail civil liberties in Hong Kong.

China has rejected a request from the US to meet regarding the situation in Hong Kong, following the recent escalation in tensions in the city over a Beijing-proposed national security legislation. China said it "categorically rejects the baseless request," adding that the legislation for Hong Kong is “purely China's internal affairs."

In England, thousands of people have been recruited to help track people who have been exposed to the coronavirus. Scotland has also launched a system, Northern Ireland has a program and Wales will launch theirs in June.
