A union representing federal government workers has urged its members to "buy nothing" in downtown Ottawa in a protest at public servants being forced to work at least three days in the office. The move to bring workers back into the office was inspired in part by a decline in commercial activity in downtown Ottawa, but the Public Service Alliance of Canada said: "The needs of the downtown core shouldn't fall on the backs of workers and the federal public service."
