The RCMP has unveiled more details about the police incident that resulted in a lengthy closure of Hwy 3B near Trail on Thursday morning.
Mounties descended on a property in Warfield, just west of Trail, around 8 am to execute a Criminal Code search warrant.
According to police, the search warrant was “in relation to firearms-related offences.”
Because of the high-risk nature of the situation, the Southeast District’s Emergency Response Team provided assistance and Hwy 3B was shut down.
“Investigators seized a significant quantity of suspected illegal drugs, over $40,000 in Canadian cash and other currencies, and 20 firearms,” an RCMP release explained.
“Additionally, officers located and recovered stolen property, including two travel trailers, a Ford F-350 pick-up truck, two ATVs and one motorcycle.”
Police arrested five suspects during the execution of the search warrant and one of them remains in custody.
“We appreciate the patience of the travelling public while our officers undertook this high-risk operation,” said Cpl. James Grandy.
The RCMP notes that the investigation is ongoing and several charges are being considered.
