A Nelson man didn’t quite trust the BCLC Lotto! app when it told him he had won half-a-million dollars.
Robert S. was sitting in his workshop last month when he remembered to check his Lotto 6/49 ticket from the June 17 draw.
The app told him he had won a $500,000 Extra prize, but he needed to take the ticket to a retailer to be sure.
“I didn’t know how the scanning on the app worked,” Robert recalled. “Was it for real? I showed my wife and then took it to the retailer to confirm what the app said!”
When Robert passed that news back along to his wife, he said they "were both in disbelief."
There are no specific plans to celebrate the win, but they're looking forward to a trip to Spain that had already been booked.
He’ll have more spending money in Spain, sure, but Robert is looking to use the majority of his windfall to help out his eight grandchildren and complete some home renovations.
The winning ticket was purchased at Pharmasave on Baker Street in Nelson.
