Kelowna loss prevention officer’s tip leads to arrest of Shuswap printer ink thief

A Kelowna loss prevention officer helped Mounties in the Shuswap track down an alleged printer ink thief.

In late December, the Salmon Arm RCMP issued a news release in the hopes of tracking down a male suspect who allegedly stole $3,000 worth of printer ink from a local store.

In an update on Tuesday, police said they received a second from the store just a few days later.

A staff member followed the man outside and watched him reportedly flee on foot across the highway.

“Salmon Arm RCMP previously received a tip out of Kelowna from a loss prevention officer after a media release, that the suspect was driving a black Honda Element with an Alberta license plate,” a news release said.

The RCMP made patrols and eventually found the vehicle parked near Lakeshore Drive and Shuswap Street in Salmon Arm.

Officers noticed the large amount of ink cartridges on the floor of the vehicle.

The driver was arrested for theft under $5,000.

He was released on conditions and a future court date.
