Man clocked at 208 km/h on Coquihalla with young son in the truck

After being pulled over going over 200 km/h on the Coquihalla (Hwy 5), a 43-year-old Mission man told police he was just testing his engine.

The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says it’s reasoning officers hear quite frequently, but it’s not considered a legal excuse for speeding.

The driver was pulled over in the northbound lanes of Hwy 5 just south of Kamloops shortly before 7 pm on April 10.

“This pickup was hard to miss, with its lifted suspension and a laser radar reading of 208 km/h in a 120 km/h zone,” noted Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.

“No vehicles are safe at those speeds on public roads, but a heavy truck that is high off the ground is even more unstable than other traffic.”

According to the BCHP, matters were made even worse by the fact that the man was travelling with his young son in the truck.

“We don’t want you or your kids to get hurt or killed and we would much prefer that you just slow down,” added McLaughlin.

The driver was issued a fine of $483 for excessive speeding and his truck was towed away to be impounded for seven days.
