UPDATE: Body of missing boater recovered from Mara Lake

(UPDATE: July 14 @ 2:45 pm) - The body of a man who went missing while boating with a group on Mara Lake on Friday night has been found.

According to police, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team (URT), with support from the RCMP National Underwater Recovery Training Centre (NURTC), found and recovered the man's body on Tuesday.

“Thank you to the URT, NURTC, search and rescue volunteers, and all partner agencies for their efforts throughout this operation," said Sgt. Murray McNeil.

"While this is a tragic outcome, we hope the recovery of the missing man brings some closure to his family and friends. Our thoughts remain with them during this difficult time."

(Original story: July 13 @ 2:45 pm) - The search for a man who is presumed to have drowned on Mara Lake will resume on Tuesday.

Emergency crews were called to the lake south of Sicamous around 8:15 pm Friday after people on board a boat realized a member of their group was unaccounted for.

Police were joined by Shuswap Search and Rescue for a search of the water and along the shoreline.

Those efforts resumed on Saturday and Sunday with additional resources like the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and members of Central Okanagan Search and Rescue joining in.

“We would like to thank search and rescue volunteers and all partner agencies involved for their continued dedication and support throughout this operation,” said Sgt. Murray McNeil.

“Our thoughts are with the missing man's family and friends during this difficult time.”

Police say the search area is large in size and alternative towed sonar technology will be used when those efforts resume on Tuesday.

This wasn't the only drowning incident in the broader region over the weekend as another man is presumed dead following a Saturday morning tubing incident on Okanagan Lake.
