Okanagan man, 33, dies in Hwy 97 crash near Monte Lake

Police have confirmed a multi-vehicle crash that closed Hwy 97 for several hours on Monday was fatal.

Emergency crews responded to the collision near Monte Lake around 10 am.

The investigation determined that a small Hyundai travelling westbound on the highway crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a pickup truck towing a travel trailer.

Unfortunately, the driver and lone occupant of the Hyundai, a 33-year-old man from Vernon, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the occupants of the pickup truck were transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The highway was shut down for around four hours on Monday as emergency personnel completed their work and investigators combed the scene.

The route reopened around 2 pm.
