Overnight house fire in the Kootenays claims the life of 49-year-old resident

One man is dead following a house fire in the Kootenays last week.

According to police, the fire broke out inside a residence in the 800 block of Monte Vista Drive in Rossland around 2 am on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

The home was fully engulfed in flames by the time first responders arrived at the scene and the 49-year-old Rossland man living inside was unaccounted for.

He was presumed to be dead inside the home, which was later confirmed by investigators after the fire was put out.

A thorough investigation and examination of the scene was executed and foul play is not suspected as a cause of the fire or in the man’s death.

“This appeared to be an accidental and tragic incident for the small community of Rossland,” noted Sgt. Mike Wicentowich. “Please take care to prevent fires in your home this holiday season.”

The investigation in the man’s death has been turned over to the BC Coroners Service.
