Police investigating after finding abandoned trailer leaking chemicals in the Interior

Police in the BC Interior are investigating after discovering an abandoned trailer that was leaking a purple chemical in 100 Mile House on Thursday.

According to RCMP, at noon, officers were called to investigate a suspicious trailer located at 850 Exeter Station Route. An employee at the COOP Cardllock across the street noticed that the vehicle had been leaking a purple substance that was making its way into the parking lot of the business.

In order to conduct a thorough investigation, police brought in the conservation officer service as well as members from the 100 Mile House District.

"Emergency Management BC was contacted at the scene from Hwy 24 and attended to this location to begin protecting and cleaning the area," said S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen.

"It is unknown at this time why the tractor was left at that location by the towing company who was used to remove it from Highway 24 and COOP Cardlock clearly indicated to RCMP that no permission was given to store that unit at their location."

The area of the spill has since been contained. This investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
