Police investigating after hit and run involving semi causes multi-vehicle collision in the Interior

Police in the BC Interior are investigating following a hit and run that caused a multi-vehicle collision near 100 Mile House this week.

According to RCMP, on Wednesday at 11:28 pm, officers were called to assist 100 Mile House Fire Rescue and the BC Ambulance Service following a collision on Hwy 97. Roads were extremely icy at the time of the incident.

One semi-truck towing a fully-loaded trailer struck a vehicle while heading southbound and failed to stop. Another vehicle travelling north was hit by the same semi.

"It appears that the Semi trailer had lost control of the trailer, hit the northbound vehicle, corrected over and hit the southbound vehicle and kept going," said S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen. "Another vehicle pulling a small trailer came along and attempted to stop, but slid into the southbound lane, striking the initial southbound vehicle which was stopped."

All drivers were checked out by paramedics. Only the resident in the southbound vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Officers found the trailer parked at the COOP Gas Cardlock near Canim-Hendrix Lake Road and seized the vehicle for further investigation. The driver was not located.

"Evidence left at the scene was connected to this vehicle by the investigators. The registered owner of the Semi was contacted and is cooperating with the investigation."

Anyone with information on the hit and run is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
