Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5).
According to the agency, the major route saw 24 centimetres of “heavy snow” between Hope and Merritt overnight.
An additional 10-15 cm is expected today before the winter weather eases off later in the day.
“Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow,” notes the Environment Canada weather warning.
“If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone.”
The alert adds that weather in the mountains can change suddenly, resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
