UPDATE: Train derailment near Field, BC, has been resolved

(UPDATE: May 1 @ 2:30 pm) - A train derailment on the eastern edge of British Columbia this morning has been resolved, but the incident remains under investigation.

CPKC spokesperson Terry Cunha confirmed to NowMedia that there were no injuries and no dangerous goods were involved.

According to Cunha, "multiple cars" of a CPKC train derailed about 12 kilometres west of Field, BC, around 4:30 am MDT.

"Eight empty auto rack rail cars used to carry finished vehicles were involved," he explained. "The line was cleared of the derailed cars late this morning and the rail line reopened after repairs and safety inspections."

CPKC crews will remain on site to continue the removal of the involved cars. A team of TSB investigators was deployed to the site this morning to gather information and assess the incident.

(Original story: May 1 @ 9:35 am) - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has deployed a team of investigators to the eastern edge of British Columbia.

According to the TSB, there has been a derailment involving a Canadian Pacific Railway Company train near Field.

Once TSB investigators arrive at the scene, they will gather information and assess the incident.

“The TSB is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline, and rail transportation occurrences,” a release from the TSB explains.

“Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.”

Three men were killed in a train derailment near Field in 2019.
