A BC truck driver has lost their licence after an "unusual" impaired driving stop in the east Kootenays earlier this month.
On the morning of Dec. 4, a BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) officer pulled over an orange Peterbilt tractor-trailer with two loaded flat-deck trailers on Highway 3B.
The truck was initially stopped because it was recorded driving 75 km/h in a 60 zone.

However, when the truck was pulled over, the driver reportedly lit a candle in the cab.
The BCHP officer believed the driver was using the Christmas-scented candle to “mask the odour of liquor.”
“In this case, the officer gave the driver a Mandatory Alcohol Screening breath demand, so there was no need to form suspicion that the driver had been drinking,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.
The 52-year-old Abbotsford man blew a “warning,” which meant he was above the legal limit.
He was given an immediate three-day roadside prohibition of his licence plus a three-day vehicle impound.
The truck was owned by a trucking company based out of Agassiz, the BCHP said in their news release.
The driver was also given a $138 ticket for speeding plus a $230 ticket for having open liquor in the vehicle.
