“The Salmon RCMP would like to offer their condolences to the friends and family of the person who died,” says Cpl. Brett Urano RCMP spokesperson.
The crash closed the highway until just after midnight.
The RCMP’s investigation, which included reviewing dashcam footage, determined that the sedan was travelling westbound in oncoming lanes, the release said.
The driver of the tractor trailer tried to avoid the crash but was unable to do so.
According to the RCMP, the driver of the tractor trailer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and has been cooperating with the investigation.
Police urged drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions and ensure they use winter tires before travelling.
