BC reports 494 new COVID-19 cases as hospitalizations drop once again

BC health officials reported 494 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.

That brings the province's active case to 5,548, down from the 6,757 recorded at this time last week.

Of the new cases, 140 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 288 were in the Fraser Health region, eight were in Island Health, 33 were in Interior Health and 25 were in Northern Health.

There are currently 387 people in hospital with the virus, down 58 patients from last Friday.

Of those hospitalized with COVID-19, 141 are in ICU or critical care.

Two deaths have been attributed to the virus in the past 24 hours.

So far, 2,393,265 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, with 124,880 of those being second doses.

"Today, anyone 25 and older can book their vaccine and by the end of the weekend, all adults 18 and older across BC will be eligible," said Dr. Bonnie Henry in a written statement.

"Don’t wait until you are eligible to book. Rather, take two minutes today to register in advance to fast track your appointment booking."
