Parts of Canada continue to grapple with an upsurge of COVID-19 cases as the calendar cruises through summer.
As of Monday, Aug. 10, the number of recorded and active coronavirus cases across the country sits at 4,754.
The large majority of those cases reside in Ontario and Quebec, with Alberta and to a lesser extent BC dealing with an uptick in confirmed cases this month.
BC has recorded 386 active cases, while Alberta is reporting a notable surge for August with 1,125 currently confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, Ontario has seen a steep decline with only 994 active cases and Quebec continues to be the hardest hit place in Canada with 3,890.
Here’s how total cases, deaths and recoveries from the virus break down for each province as of Aug 10:
Canada's first case of the novel coronavirus was discovered on Jan. 25, nearly two months later the country surpassed 1,000 cases.
The drastic spike in daily case counts quickly followed that, doubling to 2,000 cases in just three days before doubling again to 4,000 cases by March 26.
Before the end of April, there were 30,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Canada.
