Canadians can now buy Kelowna grown cannabis from Shoppers Drug Mart

A large cannabis company with strong ties to the Okanagan has landed a deal to supply Shoppers Drug Mart with cannabis for online sales.

On Tuesday, Shoppers officially launched its online cannabis sales platform - cannabis will not be stocked in-store - and while only Ontario is able to purchase from the website, some of its supply will be grown in Kelowna.

The Flowr Group’s 85,000 sqft production facility, located in the Lake Country industrial area, will supply Shoppers with cannabis on a purchase order basis for the next three years.

Flowr’s head offices are located in Markham, Ontario, however, the Kelowna location also includes a research and development facility that works in partnership with UBC Okanagan.

Shoppers will sell the company’s two initial cannabis brands, FlowrRx, which will serve as the company's medical cannabis and its recreational cannabis brand called Flowr.

“We believe that partnering with Shoppers Drug Mart to provide patients with premium medical cannabis is a game-changing opportunity for Flowr’s medical business and we look forward to working with their team,” said Tom Flow, Flowr’s Co-CEO.

Flowr was also selected as one of the 32 cannabis cultivators chosen by the British Columbia Liquor Distribution Branch to supply premium cannabis to province-owned dispensaries.

According to Flowr, there are plans to build a second growing facility in the Okanagan that could potentially be over 300,000 sqft.
