It’s hard to think of a better way to spend a summer Saturday night than singing along with one of Canada’s favourite bands.
Okanagan residents will have the chance to do just that after Blue Rodeo announced a Penticton show at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Saturday, July 5.
The show will be part of a summer of celebration for the alt-country rockers, who are marking four decades as a band having formed in Toronto in the mid-1980s.
Reflecting on 40 years in the business, frontman Jim Cuddy says they’re able to fully appreciate where Blue Rodeo sits in the pantheon of music.
“Success seemed real when we were entertaining people in The Horseshoe. That was the top of the heap for us,” Cuddy notes. “When you look back, you realize it’s just been this beautiful dream.”
Blue Rodeo’s body of work has become a benchmark in Canadian music, with deeply resonant stories that have influenced countless songwriters.
Some of their biggest hits, like “Hasn’t Hit Me Yet,” “5 Days in May,” “Lost Together,” “Rain Down on Me” and several others have become iconic Canadian anthems.
Tickets to see Blue Rodeo in Penticton will go on sale through Ticketmaster at 10 am on Friday, May 9, with presale opportunities beginning as early as Wednesday, May 7.
If you’re unable to make that Saturday night show in the South Okanagan, the band will be playing two nights later in West Kelowna as part of Mission Hill Winery’s summer concert series.
