The internet truly started to freak out when it appeared that Friends would be taken off of Netflix on Jan. 1, 2019.
With WarnerMedia, who owns the show, gearing up to launch its own streaming service within the next year, fans have been aware of the possibility for some time.
On Sunday, however, an internet sleuth noticed that Netflix’s page for Friends said the show wouldn’t be available to stream starting in 2019.
WTF NETFLIX??? Is it possible to watch all of friends before January 1st? I guess we’ll see.. 😏 pic.twitter.com/EFLZzzIyvh

THE ONLY REASON I HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH NETFLIX IS TO REWATCH FRIENDS. WHY @netflix ARE YOU HURTING US.

Cancelling my Netflix account because Friends is being removed. I’ve seen it about 5000 times but still pic.twitter.com/ew0DBEoQR0

The negative reactions came flying in through Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and whatever other social media websites one might use to complain.
But on Monday, Netflix put an end to the drama, at least for now, by announcing that the show wouldn’t be going anywhere in 2019.
“The Holiday Armadillo has granted your wish: Friends will still be there for you in the U.S. throughout 2019,” tweeted the Netflix US account.

Friends is also not leaving Netflix Canada, so you can all keep watching "The One Where Everybody Finds Out" another 100 times.

Netflix Canada followed that up with the same confirmation.
“Friends is also not leaving Netflix Canada, so you can all keep watching ‘The One Where Everybody Finds Out' another 100 times.”
Whether it was an error on Netflix’s part or the streaming service just quickly caved to the online pressure, it doesn’t matter, Friends is here to stay for at least another year.
