Mission Dance Company is bringing Swan Lake on a regional tour to four cities throughout the BC Interior this May and June.
There will be a production of the well-known classical ballet in Kamloops, Penticton, Kelowna and Vernon, sharing the story of magic, romance, betrayal, forgiveness and love.
Swan Lake features a conniving villain and the noble Prince Siegfried who is mesmerized and tricked by the black swan, Odille, but ultimately wins the love and forgiveness of the pure and loving white swan, Odette.
Dancers will fill the stage with sudden twists of the story and new characters, giving the audience an experience of excitement and suspense as they wonder if the purity of the white swan will, against all odds, do away with evil Rothbart once and for all.
In the Mission Dance Company production, the role of Prince Siegfried will be played by Ian Szkolak, an internationally trained classical dancer who has danced professionally with Ballet Victoria, Canadian Pacific Ballet and Ballet Etoile Canada.
It will be performed in Kamloops on May 19 at 7:30 pm and May 20 at 2 pm at the Sagebrush Theatre.
For Penticton, the production will run on June 9 at 7:30 pm at the Cleland Community Theatre.
Swan Lake will take the stage in Kelowna on June 10 at 3 pm and 7:30 pm, as well as June 11 at 3 pm at the Rotary Centre for the Arts.
In Vernon, it will run on June 24 at 7:30 pm and June 25 at 3 pm at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre.
