In the latest episode of Fitness Matters with personal trainer Liz Sage of Team Fitness and Jim Csek of NowMedia, the duo dived into the mental aspect of living an active lifestyle.
“Our mental fitness is a big part of us staying physically fit – and staying physically fit is helping our mental fitness as well,” explained Sage.
Sage, who has a master’s degree in counselling psychology, began the video by discussing the importance of building habits.
“The heaviest weight in the gym is the front door,” shared Sage when speaking on the effort it takes to be consistent.
Sage went into detail about how she had noticed in her practice the number of people who are too hard on themselves.
“There is a difference of mindset with somebody who is going to be more successful emotionally and physically by giving themselves grace when things get hard because life is hard,” she explained.
The duo touched on goals and how they impact the bigger picture of someone working out, with Sage explaining that “the goal is the journey."
Other aspects of mental fitness the duo covered were setting personal boundaries, ways to recover from being overwhelmed, confidence, capitalizing on what you can do and more.
