Plant-based nuggets are now available at A&W

A&W continues to be a pioneer when it comes to plant-based food.

The popular fast-food chain has introduced another plant-based nuggets to its menu, but only in BC and Ontario and only for a limited time.

According to Erin Ireland, a Vancouver-based food blogger and influencer who tried the new product out last week, they’ll likely only be available until January.

However, if the test run in BC and Ontario goes well, it’s expected that the plant-based nuggets could become a permanent menu item at some point in 2020.

“Change is good, and so are options. That’s why we teamed up with Lightlife to launch Plant-Based Nuggets, a first for a quick-serve restaurant in Canada,” says the A&W website.

“They’re crispy, craveable and an unbelievably delicious option made with 100% plant-based ingredients. We can’t wait for you to try them.”

The nuggets are made from peas, wheat flour and fava beans, with no soy, and they are vegan friendly, although they’re cooked using the same fryers as the chain’s chicken items are cooked in.

A&W also has plenty of dipping sauces to enjoy them with, including their barbecue and sweet & sour, which are both vegan friendly options.

Ireland, who runs a plant-based bakery and is a notable personality in the vegan community, was a big fan of the new product.

“That is so crispy, you would never know that is not chicken,” she said on her Instagram story. “That is crazy, oh my goodness.”
