A popular Victoria brewpub has been acquired by CRAFT Beer Market

A popular brewpub in downtown Victoria is going through a transformation as it prepares to join CRAFT Beer Market.

CRAFT Beer Market, which has nine locations in Canada, including four in BC, has acquired Canoe Brewpub. The move will be final as of March 1, 2021.

Canoe Brewpub, one of Victoria’s most celebrated hospitality establishments and a staple of the Victoria craft brewing community, is located along Victoria’s Inner Harbour.

CRAFT says that the space will be undergoing significant renovations in the near future, but for now “not much will change.”

“Our plan is to keep Canoe as Canoe for the time being,” says CRAFT Founder and President PJ L’Heureux.

This will include continuing to brew the Canoe Mainstays at the brewery while “exploring progressive North American and global brewing cultures.”

“This is wonderful news for our guests, team and beer lovers in Victoria,” says Don Calveley, Founder of The Truffles Group, which owns Canoe Brewpub.

“CRAFT Beer Market brings the same commitment to community involvement, excellent service and outstanding food and beverage that have been the hallmark of Canoe Brewpub for the past 18 years.”

Calveley will continue to own the land, buildings and marinas at the Inner Harbour location and will be leasing the restaurant, patio and brewpub space to CRAFT.

“We could not be more excited,” added L’Heureux.

“Canoe will be our first brewing facility and the first member of our family in Victoria. We admire Canoe as a community builder in the city and love the history of the building that is Canoe’s home.”
