British Columbia’s craft beer industry cleaned up at the Canada Beer Cup earlier this week.
Winners of Canada’s biggest beer competition, organized by the Canadian Craft Brewers Association, were announced Monday, Nov. 10, at a gala in Quebec City.
The Canada Beer Cup is the second of two national beer competitions each year, following the Canadian Brewing Awards in June.
Although the Canada Beer Cup is much newer, having been founded in 2022 compared to 2000, it has already overtaken the Canadian Brewing Awards in size.
It was a banner year for BC, as breweries from Canada’s westernmost province took home 56 of 152 beer-specific awards (36.8%).
That was nearly double the number of medals won by the next best province, Quebec with 30 (19.7%), and exactly double Alberta’s 28 (18.4%) as the third most decorated province.
Deadfall Brewing (Prince George), Gladstone Brewing (Courtenay) and Steamworks Brewing (Burnaby) all led the way for BC with three beer medals.
