No McRib or McPizza: McDonald’s big new menu item is spicy nuggets

Last week, McDonald’s Canada blew up social media with one simple line.

“The thing you have been asking for arrives Aug. 31,” the tweet said, which started four days of non-stop speculation.

Of course, peoples’ minds instantly went to a pair of iconic McDonald’s menu items that have earned cult status over the years, the McRib and McPizza.

Unfortunately for those who were pining for one of those two items, neither will be making their return to the McDonald’s menu north of the 49th parallel.

Instead, it’s Spicy Chicken McNuggets that are now available nationwide for a limited time.

“When our US counterparts launched Spicy McNuggets last September, there was huge buzz with Canadians asking when they would be launching in Canada,” said Rebecca Smart, director of brand strategy for McDonald’s Canada.

“We are very excited to offer Spicy McNuggets as a limited-time offer, tapping into the growing interest for spicy flavours, and giving Canadians another way to enjoy our iconic Chicken McNuggets.”

The new nuggets are made with 100% seasoned chicken breast and breaded with a spicy habanero heat.

You can up the heat with the limited-time Spicy Buffalo Dipping Sauce as well.

According to McDonald’s Canada, the introduction of Spicy Chicken McNuggets is the first flavour innovation on the fast-food chain’s nuggets since they were introduced in Canada in 1984.

For now, the new spicy nuggets are only available for a limited time, starting today, so you will want to get your hands on them before they’re taken away.

Just like regular nuggets, they’re available on their own or as an Extra Value Meal in six-, 10- and 20-piece sizes.
