The Thompson Nicola Regional District is warning the public about extended recreational vehicle use in the TNRD.
From travel trailers to fifth wheels and campers, the use of RVs as permanent homes in rural areas has been increasing. According to the TNRD, some RVs have even had their wheels removed or added decks and roofs.
The use of RVs as a dwelling has never been permitted within the TNRD. RVs are designed to provide temporary living quarters for camping, recreational, or travel use.
RVs can cause an impact on the environment through their lack of septic systems, often near lakes and watercourses. RVs are not taxed so all other complying homeowners pay more. The risk of fire from electrical overload or carbon monoxide poisoning is high, and RVs reduce the value and sale potential of neighbouring properties.
RVs are regulated under the BC Motor Vehicle Act. To see if your RV is in the right, click here. For more information on RVs and the TNRD, call (250)377-8673.
