After welcoming nearly 120,000 guests in 2019, the BC Wildlife Park in Kamloops will receive some upgrades in 2021.
On Friday, the BC government announced that the non-profit organization has been chosen to receive $149,000 in funding through the economic recovery program.
Much of the funding will go towards making the popular tourist destination more accessible to people with varying transportation needs.
Among the upgrades highlighted are paving the park's 1.5km of walkable pathways to allow for smooth cruising to those using wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers to navigate.
The park will also be purchasing five powered mobility wheelchairs will be purchased for visitor use.
Signage and washroom facilities will also benefit from the funding.
"We took notice of the areas that needed improvement and listened to our visitors. We strive to be 100% accessible for all of our guests who have varying accessibility needs," says Glenn Grant, General Manager & Executive Director.
"This CERIP funding will allow the BCWP to make the improvements we’ve been wanting to do for a number of years; we just haven’t had the funding to do so."
The projects are expected to be completed by November 20201.
