The Kamloops RCMP received 327 calls for service between last Friday morning and Monday morning.
That number is often well above 400, so it was a quieter weekend for the detachment.
However, there were still a few notable calls that Cpl. Crystal Evelyn highlighted in her latest weekend report:
Officers responded to a reported robbery at a Sahali bus stop around 1:25 pm on Friday. According to police, a youth was threatened by two men who stole his backpack and phone, but fortunately escaped the incident uninjured. One suspect was described as a man in his late 30s wearing red snow pants, while the second suspect was simply described as “having a mask on.” Despite patrols in the area, the suspects were not located.
Shortly before 4 am on Saturday, an officer made a traffic stop at 3rd Avenue and Seymour Street and spotted contraband tobacco in the vehicle. After detaining the driver, a search revealed suspected illegal drugs, a loaded firearm and ammunition. The suspect was released with conditions and a court date, with a charge recommendation anticipated.
On Saturday night, police responded to a robbery at a commercial business in the 1000 block of Hillside Drive. Officers responded to the incident around 9:50 pm after the store’s staff reported the theft. They told police that two suspects produced a knife and an icepick during the robbery, then fled on foot.
Around 2:25 am on Sunday, police responded to a mischief report at an apartment building on Battle Street West. A man was arrested after allegedly pulling the fire alarm before running around inside and claiming that people were trying to kill him. The RCMP noted that the suspect appeared to be under the influence of drugs and “his claims were unsubstantiated.” He was brought into custody to sober up and later released.
Officers responded to reports of an assault in the 100 block of Victoria Street West on Sunday morning. It happened around 11 am and sent a woman to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A suspect was identified through surveillance footage and they were located and arrested about two hours later. They’ve since been released with conditions and a court date. A man allegedly assaulted two people in the 1000 block of Columbia Street West Sunday afternoon. He too was located and arrested by police before being released with conditions and a court date.
Laptops, keys and computer monitors were all stolen from a commercial business in the 1400 block of Pearson Place around 2 am Monday. The RCMP responded alongside the police dog unit and saw the damage to the front door of the building, but were unable to locate any suspects.
